FGR Scratch Race
Scratch Race
Thursday night’s scratch race around the Olympic forest was like stepping into an underground drag race of over a hundred racers and the same number of bystanders, with the cars replaced by beautiful bikes. A decked out van blasted music setting the scene, groups of kids their bikes parked nearby chatting and smoking by the side of the twelve lane ring road waiting to be called up. In the revolutionary spirit that started a weekend of comradeship and competition, blood was spilled and teeth were lost. We were witness to Larry riding into a Chinese rider who fell over at the start of second heat. Thankfully they were both alright, albeit a few lasting impressions on their bodies! Hope they recover quickly!

FGR Alleycat
Alleycat
This year’s Alleycat was a thrilling combination of speed and tact, with tasks at the stations taking inspiration from its messenger roots. From a handmade cardboard backpack that had to be carried along until the finish line to a stop for beer and chili, the race was a box of laughs! The race must have caused confusion among the Beijing locals with a hundred and fifty bikers racing around the city with cardboard boxes strapped to them! Congratulations to Natooke’s Mama and Papa Ines and Julien who both came second for the men and women! The Natooke bigger kids placed in the top 10 with the younger Natooke crew chasing not too far behind! Well done to everyone who competed, it was a blast!

Bike Polo
Bike Polo
Never have we seen bike polo matches as exciting and aggressive as the ones in this year’s fixed-gear revolution. Of the twelve participating teams, half were Natooke’s own and they did us proud! Level of play was extremely high, the games tough and completely lacking fear. It wasn’t easy, but the Natooke dream team took the Champion’s title! The Nanjing team had obviously been preparing hard for this match, and the final between the two teams was a battle of skill and aggression. It was a tough match, but skill prevailed and the nifty Natooke champs kept their pride.

We will be continuing our weekly polo sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays so if you want to play with the champs, this is your perfect opportunity!

FGR Tricks & Jisu PK
Tricks & JISU PK
The backward circle competition was relocated halfway through to a small park at The Place when the police kicked us out of the first location by the worker’s gymnasium as James Blunt was singing there that night. The champion for the backward circles did over 100 backward circles surprisingly without getting dizzy and disorientated, and the bunny hop champ jumped to 90cm – the perfect skill for fence-hopping and outrunning those cops on your getaway! The trick competition was also a thrilling spectacle, with one of the competitors jumping over six of his very nervous friends! Congratulations to Ines the master who won the track stand competition, lasting the longest of all the fixie riders who tried their skills.

Thanks to STC for the organization of the JISU PK races that many took part in after a whole day riding. The final between Julien, Zhang Nan and Jacob was a nail biting finish to the day, with Zhang Nan topping 74KM to win the race in 14 seconds! The races coincided with the prize giving ceremony in a bar, where everyone had the opportunity to celebrate and relax with free-flowing beers all night long after a hard day of riding!
